Description:

Large language models, or “LLMs,” are nothing new. For years, legal professionals have been using this type of AI to find cases and locate documents that traditional keyword and Boolean searches miss. But recent advancements in this LLM technology known as generative pre-trained transformers, or “GPTs,” have improved these already-powerful tools. And the secret is out. There are countless bots and other applications available for various general and specific uses, including for the practice of law.

This CLE presentation introduces today’s new AI technology, and specifically explains its usefulness for the practice of law.

Speaker:

Ryan Groff is senior solutions consultant at Thomson Reuters. He was recently at Casetext, where he was part of the team that launched the AI legal assistant, CoCounsel. He is a member of the Massachusetts bar and regularly presents on a range of topics across the United States, and around the world. He is lecturer on law at New England Law | Boston where he launched the school’s first course on law, innovation, and technology, which he still teaches. Ryan holds graduate degrees with honors in law and theology, and lives near Boston with his family.
